June 7th is Concurrent Programming day in Perth
For those of you who have been following the plans of the Perth .NET Community of Practice you will recall that we have been trying to get Joel Pobar over to present to the group. Anyhow I'm pleased to announce that the details have just been finalised and that he is going to be presenting at the June meeting:
Presenter: Joel Pobar
Joel is a habituated software tinkerer originally from sunny Brisbane, Australia. Recently, he was a Program Manager on the .NET Common Language Runtime team sharing his time between late-bound dynamic CLR features (Reflection, Code Generation), compiler teams, and the Shared Source CLI program (Rotor). These days, he's on sabbatical, exploring the machine learning and natural language processing worlds while consulting part-time for Microsoft Services. You can find his recent writings at http://callvirt.net/blog/.
Topic: Concurrent Programming and the Dynamic Language Runtime
Venue: Level 2, QV1 Building
Date/Time: June 7th, 3:30-6pm
Important: You will notice that both the time and venue have been changed - this is intentional as it gives us a larger venue and more time for Joel to present in.
For anyone who wants a social drink and some food we are proposing to host a community dinner that evening that will be in part subsidised by the user group itself. We are proposing to have dinner at around 6:30 across the road at Nine Mary's (Indian). The food will be a fixed cost of $20 per person but you will be expected to pay for drinks ;-). If you are interested in attending this dinner you MUST rsvp to Alastair (alastair @ softteq.com) as soon as possible (before June 1st) so that we can secure a booking at the restaurant.
More information on this evening will be posted as they come to light. Personally I can't wait to have Joel over here - as a former member of the CLR team he has a wealth of knowledge that most .NET developers would be envious of.
