June Meeting - Reminder

This is a quick reminder about the upcoming events in June and July for the Perth .NET Community of Practice. We have some great presenters lined up, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Before we get into the details of these events we would like to acknowledge the group’s sponsors who help make these meeting possible. We would like to acknowledge financial support from Change Corporation and Unisys West, and Excom Education for the ongoing provision of a meeting venue.

June

On Thursday 7th June, Joel Pobar will be speaking to the user group on the topics of concurrency and dynamic languages. This is a special, not to be missed event, happening from 3:30pm to 6pm at QV1, level 2 theatre (please note, this is not the usual venue of Excom). This is a free event and everyone is welcome.

Joel is intending to split the session content roughly into two sections; exploring concurrent programming models (an extension of his recent CodeCampOz talk), and also taking a look at the DLR (Dynamic Languages Runtime) and associated dynamic languages and what it means to the development landscape. Both topics are important areas for .NET developers, especially given the flurry of activity at Microsoft.

Joel is a former Microsoft CLR Program Manager, PDC presenter, and author. His interests span just about everything to do with computing, but especially threading and concurrency in the .NET CLR.

Following Joel’s presentation, there will be a community dinner at Nine Mary's restaurant (Indian), just over the road. The food will be at a fixed cost of $20 per person but you will be expected to pay for drinks. There are a few places left, so if you are interested in attending (and haven’t already RSVP’d Alastair) please contact him to secure a place.

July

On Thursday, 5th July, Shane Morris will be talking to the user group on the topic of user experience and interaction design. This is an area of development that is so often overlooked, and yet it can make or break the usefulness of any application.

Shane Morris is a User Experience Evangelist at Microsoft, based in Melbourne, Australia. He has worked as an interaction designer and usability specialist since 1991. Shane is interested in all aspects of user-centered design and passionate about creating great user experiences. He will be presenting at ReMix07. Upcoming session details will be posted soon.

Please Note:

The usual venue for the Perth .NET Community of Practice is Excom Education, Level 2, 23 Barrack St, Perth and these happen on the first Thursday of each month. If you're reading this for the first time, don't forget to subscribe to the Announcements RSS Feed
