User Group Library
As some of you are no doubt aware the Perth .NET Community of Practice has for a long time housed a library of books that are available for members to borrow. Since we migrated the web site the full list of books hasn't been easily accessible and for the most part people have stopped using this service. This morning I updated the list, based on the books that are actually sitting in the box and the list is now available via the HireThings website.
In the past in order to borrow a book you had to be a member of the user group. This condition is still in place but is as simple as registering with this website. As we are going to be trialling the HireThings website to manage the borrowing of items from the library you will also have to register with that website in order to request a book from the library.
The process to borrow a book:
- Make sure you are registered on this website as a member of the Perth .NET Community of Practice
- Register on the HireThings website
- Locate the book in the library based on the list available here
- Depending on the availability of the book we will contact you regarding a suitable time for you to pick up the book (books are currently housed in the box at my feet here at L2, 90 King Street, Perth).
As the library hasn't been actively used for a number of months you might notice that it doesn't currently contain any books of interest to you. There are a couple of things to point out:
- There are still some books that are currently out on loan with people which haven't been added to the library. This currently includes a number of .NET Compact Framework books, WCF Unleashed and WPF Unleashed. I'm hoping that the library will include these books in the coming week.
- If you have any books at home or in the office that you aren't using day-to-day, I would encourage you to donate them to the user group library. You can of course borrow them back if you need to use them again!
- If you are looking for a particular book that you think others would be interested in, please recommend the book to myself or anyone involved in running the user group. We will endeavour to get the book for the library (budget and book availability dependent) and give you first access to the book. This will aid us in building up the library with current books, making it more useful for everyone
